Adverse Reaction Policy for Naturopathy Services at The Wellness Road Clinic
At The Wellness Road Clinic, your health and safety are our top priority. While we use natural therapies and remedies in our practice, we understand that, as with any form of treatment, there is a potential for adverse reactions to occur. Please review our Adverse Reaction Policy to ensure you are informed of the steps to take if you experience any issues during your treatment.
1. Understanding Adverse Reactions
- Natural Medicines: Natural medicines, including herbal remedies, supplements, and other naturopathic treatments, are generally safe for most people. However, some individuals may experience an adverse reaction, which can include allergic reactions, skin irritations, digestive discomfort, or other unexpected side effects.
- Individual Responses: The way you respond to natural treatments may differ from person to person. Reactions can be influenced by factors such as allergies, sensitivities, pre-existing conditions, or interactions with other medications or supplements.
2. Possible Symptoms of an Adverse Reaction
- Common Reactions: Some common reactions may include mild digestive upset, changes in bowel movements, headaches, fatigue, or skin irritation. These are usually temporary and subside as your body adjusts.
- Serious Reactions: Less commonly, more serious reactions like difficulty breathing, swelling, dizziness, or severe skin rashes may occur. If you experience any of these symptoms, seek medical attention immediately.
3. What to Do if You Experience an Adverse Reaction
- Stop Treatment Immediately: If you experience any adverse reaction during or after using a product or undergoing a treatment, stop using the product immediately and discontinue the treatment.
- Contact Us: Notify your naturopath or clinic staff immediately, especially if you experience an unexpected or severe reaction. We will discuss your symptoms and advise on the next steps.
- Seek Medical Attention: If the reaction is severe or you are concerned about your health, please seek medical advice immediately from your general practitioner or the nearest hospital. In emergencies, call 000 for immediate assistance.
- We have a strict TGA reporting process for adverse reactions. Please contact us immediately to commence the reporting process with the TGA and the manufacturer.

4. How We Manage Adverse Reactions
- Assessment: If you report an adverse reaction, we will assess the situation and determine if the reaction is related to the treatment or remedy provided. In some cases, further investigation or testing may be required.
- Adjustments to Treatment: If necessary, we will work with you to adjust your treatment plan or suggest alternative therapies to minimize adverse reactions and better suit your individual needs.
- Record Keeping: Any adverse reactions reported will be recorded in your client file to ensure that future treatments and recommendations are tailored to your needs and sensitivities.
- For any adverse reactions, we diligently follow the procedures to ensure reactions has been reported to the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), Australia’s governing agency for medications and therapeutic supplements. The TGA plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety of therapeutic goods, providing a robust system for monitoring and reporting adverse events.

5. Precautionary Measures
- Full Disclosure: To ensure your safety, please inform your naturopath of any allergies, pre-existing conditions, current medications, or other health concerns prior to starting treatment. This information will help us tailor the best course of care for you.
- Patch Testing: For some herbal products or topical treatments, we may recommend a patch test before full application to check for allergic reactions.
- Avoiding Known Allergens: If you have known sensitivities or allergies to specific herbs, supplements, or ingredients, please notify your naturopath so that we can avoid these substances in your treatment plan.
